Joy Ihezie (400 level) and Faith Okeke (200 level) of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Imo State University, were killed after they were attacked by robbers on the Kaduna-Jos Road, while travelling to Jos, Plateau State, on a coastal bus to attend a national conference of the National Fellowship of Christian Medical Laboratory Science Students.
They were about three kilometers to their destination when the incident happened. It was said that the gun-wielding robbers were operating on the highway when the bus conveying the students ran into them. The gunmen reportedly opened fire on the students when their bus attempted to flee the scene.
It was a moment of sadness and sorrow at Imo state University, (IMSU), Owerri, as the students of Medical and Laboratory science of the faculty of Health Sciences mourned two of their course mates who were reportedly shot dead by gunmen last Friday on Kaduna - Jos expressway.
According to reports gathered, the IMSU students who were on transit for an annual conference at University of Jos, Plateau state, North central - Nigeria, were hit by stray bullets when armed robbers and security men engaged in a gun duel on the high way, leading to the instant deaths of Joy Ihezie and Faith Okere, 400 and 200 levels respectively, while several others were injured. The students who were in all black attires, placards and pictures of their fallen course mates, paraded in and around the school campus, singing mourning songs in honor of the dead. |
