‘93 Days Cast’: Bimbo Akintola, Keppy Ekpeyong Bassey, Gideon Okeke, Somkhele Idhalama, Bimbo Manuel, Danny Glover, Tim Reid and directed by Steve Gukas.
They all deserve a standing ovation for putting in their best to show how ‘Ebola’; a virus that instilled fear in grown men, women and a whole nation was tackled and contained in Nigerian within 93 days.
The movie is a historic gripping documentation of the deadly disease starting from the day the day the Ebola virus came into Nigeria to the day the country was declared Ebola-free.
We all know that the virus was successfully contained in Lagos but we don't know most of what happened behind the scenes?
All we know and swallowed hook, line and sinker (until you see “93 Days”) is from information shared in the news. But the movie provides an even deeper insight into this and the actions of a team of professional well-trained Nigerians who held up their Hippocratic Oath and how it changed their lives.
The movie producers (Bolanle Austen-Peters, Dotun Olakunri and Gukas) paid a lot of attention to detail, not just with the story but also the locations based in Lagos.
Technically, it is hard to fault 93 Days. The picture is perfect, production design is superb, sound is fine, costuming is spot on and the music is mostly appropriate but sadly, the focus was so much on the struggle the infected persons were experiencing that the filmmakers brushed aside the agony their immediate family member.
The fear, stigmatization, confusion, and agony they were put through just became one of them is a career of the dreaded virus.
That notwithstanding, “93 Days” is a must watch for every Nigerian; it is mind-blowing and historic.
