Amaka Osakwe is a Nigerian Fashion Designer. She is the creative director of Maki Oh, an African based fashion label.
She has a BA in Fashion Studies from Arts University Bournemouth.
Amaka started Maki Oh, as a fashion label, in Lagos, Nigeria, in 2010. Her brand is known to be dyed by hand, by using the traditional textile art process known as Adire. Maki Oh gained international recognition when it entered for New York Fashion Week in 2012.
Maki Oh has been worn by international public figures and celebrities including USA First Lady Michelle Obama, Beyonce, Rihanna, Kerry Washington, Solange Knowles, Leelee Sobieski, Eku Edewor, etc.
Amaka Osakwe was invited to the White House by the First Lady of the United States of America, Michelle Obama in October 2014, thus becaming the first African Designer to be invited to the White House. She has been named by African fashion magazine ARISE, as Designer Of The Year. She has also been profiled by Forbes Africa as one of the 15 Young African Creatives Rebranding Africa.
