Young engaged Nigerian couple reunite after being rescued in the Mediterranean Sea
Hundreds of EU-bound African migrants were rescued in the Mediterranean Sea this week. Each rescue brings with it people and stories from all over the world. Among those rescued by MOAS crew are Lucky and Mary, a young engaged couple from Nigerian.
Both were rescued in a 48-hour period in which over 10,000 people were assisted by search and rescue operations while attempting the Central Mediterranean crossing.
Although Lucky and Mary left the beaches of Libya on the same night, they were placed in separate wooden boats by the smugglers who had promised them a safe journey to Europe. Lucky’s boat was rescued by MOAS in the early hours of the morning. Immediately, he asked the MOAS crew and the Red Cross team on board to help him find his fiancée. Having realised the huge danger of their situation – he now knew that there was no way either of their unseaworthy boats could have ever reached Europe – he had to wait for several excruciating hours before Mary’s boat was finally rescued by the Responder.
Lucky and Mary claimed they were forced to flee Nigeria over threats of death. For Lucky, the time came when his mother was killed and he feared that he would be targeted next. For Mary, an orphan, it was when life with her abusive uncle became too much to bear. When the Red Cross asked Mary why she loved Lucky, she replied, "He was there when there was no hope". Now, the couple’s hope is that they will be able to build a safe and secure life in Europe
EFCC arrest company MD over N4billion fraud
Following over a hundred petitions from across the country on the operations of an alleged Wonder bank and its nefarious activities, the EFCC on Thursday October 6, arrested the Managing Director of “Lets Partner With You Ltd”, Chief. Patrick Shanchi Nwokike at his residence in Enugu, Enugu state.
Petitions from a cross section of Nigerians and cutting across religious, gender, ethnic, economic and social class indicate that the company had over the past five years solicited and obtained deposits of more than N4,000,000,000 ( Four Billion Naira Only) from the general public with promise of mouth watering interest in return.
According to investigations conducted by the Commission, the company has no license to solicit and manage funds for the public nor was it registered with Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC, or the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Company, NDIC.
Further investigations revealed that a 10% (Ten percent) interest was for some time paid on invested capital which for no justifiable reason, was suddenly stopped and all efforts by depositors to have at least the capital of their investments returned nor terminate their investments proved abortive.

The protesting youths was led by the President of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Worldwide, Udengs Eradiri. Speaking, Eradiri said: “This country has produced many presidents but the only one from the Niger Delta is constantly harassed by the mercenaries of state especially the EFCC. We want to call on the President to please respect former President Jonathan, at least for the fact that he brought peace to this country, handed over peacefully to him. He didn’t go to court. He allowed him to run this country, President Buhari should please focus on leadership and stop vilifying the first family. We appeal to Buhari to respect Jonathan the way he respects other past presidents. They have frozen his account; they are not paying his allowances. Even the security agencies around him do not get what is due them. Why is the Presidency victimizing Goodluck Jonathan? Patience Jonathan is is not the first First Lady in this country. A wife to former deputy governor, governor, Vice-President and President, are you expecting her to be a poor woman? There are other First Ladies in this country. In recent time, a former First Lady was awarded a university license. So, we are using this medium to send a message, leave our first family alone. Some people are not happy about Jonathan’s rising profile and they want to destroy it”.

Robbery suspect rapes male victim in Lagos
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspected robber, Ebere Nwankwo, for allegedly attacking and raping a male victim in the Lekki area of the state.
PUNCH Metro learnt that 20-year-old Nwankwo, after dispossessing his victim, identified only as Martins, of the sum of N22,000, allegedly had anal sexual intercourse with the victim.
This is just as two other robbery suspects – Jelili Babatunde and Ramon Haruna – were arrested by the police in the Isokoko, Agege area, while dispossessing pedestrians of their valuables.
Our correspondent gathered that in the Lekki incident, which occurred last Thursday, Nwankwo, who was armed with a gun, sneaked into Martins’ apartment on Goshen Estate in the Lekki area at about 4pm.
He was said to have ransacked the victim’s room and found N22,000.
It was learnt that Nwankwo thereafter allegedly ordered 16-year-old Martins to get on the bed, while he had sexual intercourse with him.
The suspect was afterward arrested by operatives from the Maroko Police Division, who were on a patrol in the area.
A source said the victim’s screams during the intercourse alerted the policemen.
He said, “The robber had threatened to force his victim to an Automated Teller Machine, where he would get more money from him. In the meantime, the suspect asked his victim to lie on the bed and he started having sexual intercourse with him.
“Some policemen, who were patrolling the estate, heard screams from an apartment and they drew close. When they forced the door open, the suspect and the victim were found having anal sex.”
Our correspondent gathered that Nwankwo told the police in his statement that he had sex with his victim to get some magical powers.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said the robbery suspect would be charged to court with sodomy and stealing.
She said, “The suspect has confessed to the crime. He said the sexual intercourse was to make his victim forget about the stealing. We will charge him to court with sodomy and stealing.”
In the Agege incident, Haruna told our correspondent that his friend, Babatunde, lured him into the operation, adding that they had realised N11,000 and some phones, before they were arrested by the Isokoko division.
He said, “I am a mechanic. My parents are responsible people. It was bad friendship that made me to go into robbery. My friend had lured me to go out with him to attack those pedestrians. I rode the motorcycle that we used for the operation. Jelili (Babatunde) had a toy gun that we used in dispossessing people of their property.”
The police spokesperson, Badmos said the suspects would soon be charged to court.
