She claims he got her to move from New York to L.A., uprooting her entire life, so he could be near his kids. -- She claims the incident on the yacht in Greece -- where she says he did something awful to her assistant -- has traumatized Mariah so much she had to cancel the South American leg of her tour. -- He made various financial promises to her. House of rep member claim 20 people owe Nigeria N1.2 trillion

The chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Media and Publicity; Abdulrazak Namdas disclosed that 20 Nigerians are owing the federal government N1.2 trillion and that recovering that money could help Nigeria to overcome hard times posed by the ongoing recession. Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Abdulrazak said;

“As we all know we are in a recession. AMCON was established between 2007 and 2009 as a response to global financial crisis. The Federal Government through ministry of finance guaranteed a loan that AMCON should raise 5.67 trillion naira, this was to save some of these failing financial institutions at that time, AMCON cannot recover its 2.473 trillion.

This is a time we need this resources and this debt is piling up and people owing this money are still leaving and kicking and infact they don’t appear to have issues, some of them own private jets. If we can invest that money into the economy, it will assist the economy very well and it will interest you to know that out of this 2.4 trillion only 20 individuals have about 1.2 trillion to cough out.”Earlier, the house of representative mandated its committee on banking and currency to investigate the failure of bank debtors to pay up their loans to the tune of N2.4 trillion. They noted that if these loans are paid by the debtors/obligos, it would enable AMCON to redeem its three years zero coupon.

“The resolution by the house was sequel to a motion on matters of public importance sponsored by Johnbull Shekarau from Plateau state. While moving the motion on the floor, the house said federal government through the ministry of finance and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), had provided the initial capital and a three years zero coupon to allow AMCON raise N 5.67 trillion for intervention. Six years after, AMCON is yet to recover over N2.463 billion from obligos/bank debtors to enable three years zero coupon bond it acquired,” Johnbull said. The lawmaker added that the inability to recover this amount has serious implication on the economy especially in this recession.

Several lawmakers also contributed to the debate and urged the federal government not to do business with companies owing banks until they have settled their debts, he said.

Efcc sets up team to identify, mark Patience Jonathan’s property

Indications emerged on Friday that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission was intensifying moves to gather evidence against the former First Lady, Patience Jonathan, for a possible prosecution.

A top operative of the commission said on Friday that the leadership of the commission had initiated a discreet probe of the former First Lady in a bid to assemble evidence against her in the event of her prosecution as a fallout of the commission’s decision to freeze $20m traced to her.

The source said that the commission had assembled a team of detectives saddled with the responsibility of identifying all houses and property belonging to the former First Lady.

It was stated that the operatives had been instructed from the office of the commission’s chairman to mark such houses and property as part of the preparation for the prosecution of the First Lady.

It was further stated that the operatives were focusing attention on property in Abuja, Yenagoa, Port Harcourt and other cities in the country.

The source said, “It would not be correct to conclude that the commission has halted the investigation into the activities of the former First Lady.

“The investigation is progressing and it is being handled by the office of the chairman of the commission.

“A team of operatives has been assembled to identify all her properties in the country with a focus on Abuja, Port Harcourt and Yenagoa.

“The responsibility of the team is to mark all such properties in preparation for a possible court action.”

The EFCC had traced $5m to the personal account of the former First Lady and frozen the account domiciled in Skye Bank Plc last month.

The commission’s face off with Mrs. Jonathan started when the commission froze the accounts of four companies traced to the Special Adviser to ex-President Jonathan on Domestic Affairs, Waripamowei Dudafa.

The four firms identified as Pluto Property and Investment Company Limited; Seagate Property Development and Investment Company Limited; Trans Ocean Property and Investment Company had a total of $15,591,700 in their accounts.

However, the commission was brought into a face-off with Mrs. Jonathan when she deposed to an affidavit that the money belonged to her.

The former First Lady has since filed a suit at a Federal High Court in Lagos against the commission seeking an order to unfreeze the accounts.

She is also demanding $200m compensation from the commission for alleged violation of her rights.

The Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said that he did not have the information on the latest move by the commission as of the time of filing this report on Friday.

Meanwhile, the former Special Adviser to former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Reuben Abati, might spend the weekend in detention.

A source at the commission said that Abati was still struggling to meet the conditions of the administrative bail granted him by the commission on Friday night.

Arrested Judges: Court summons Buhari, DSS, others to appear Nov 15
The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, on Friday, ordered President Muhammadu Buhari and the Director-General of the Department of State Service, DSS, Mr. Lawal Daura, to appear on November 15 to show cause why seven judges arrested between October 7 and 8 should be prosecuted.
Others equally summoned to appear before the court were the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, and the National Judicial Council, NJC. They were all cited as Respondents in a legal action that was instituted before the high court by a Lagos-based lawyer, Mr. Olukoya Ogungbeje. Though President Buhari will not appear in person, he is expected to brief a lawyer to represent him before the court on that date.
The plaintiff had in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/809/16, applied for an order of perpetual injunction restraining the Respondents from arresting, inviting, intimidating, or harassing any of the judges whose homes were raided in the “sting operation” conducted by the DSS. He contended that the arrest and detention of the judges without recourse to the NJC, was not only unconstitutional, but also aimed at ridiculing the judiciary arm of government.
The judges the plaintiff is fighting for are Justices Inyang Okoro and Sylvester Ngwuta of the Supreme Court, Adeniyi Ademola and Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court Abuja, as well as Justice Muazu Pindiga of the Federal High Court, Gombe Division. Among the five judges, only Justice Dimgba was not arrested, though his house was thoroughly searched. Other Judges who though arrested but not covered by the suit are former Chief Judge of Enugu State, Justice I. A. Umezulike, the Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal, Ilorin Division, Justice Mohammed Tsamiya; and judge of the Kano State High Court, Justice Kabiru Auta. All the arrested judges are currently under administrative bail from the DSS, pending their trial.

Immigration finally employs 888 out of 6.5million applicants

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has finally employed 888 applicants.
On Saturday March 15, 2014, about 6.5 million applicants for the immigration employments reported at various designated centers across the country for screening.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan had then set-up a presidential committee with a mandate to assist the Civil Defence, Fire Immigration and Prisons Service Board, (CDFIPB) in carrying out recruitment exercise to fill the vacancies in NIS.
NIS Comptroller General, (CG), Muhammed Babandede, on Friday told newsmen that the CDFIPB issued out guidelines for a fresh screening of only 2000 applicants whose names were published in Leadership and Thisday newspapers on August 15 and 16 2016 respectively.
Babandede disclosed that out of the 2000 applicants, a total of 1470 reported for screening while 888 met all the criteria and were therefore successful.
The breakdown shows that the number of Assistant Superintendent of Immigration 11 is: 177, Assistant Inspector of Immigration is: 305 and Immigration Assistant 1 – immigration Assistant 111 are: 406.
His words: “The guidelines included: Age on rank, proper scrutiny of certificate, Physical fitness, drug free test, security clearance, good conduct/character and medical fitness.
“The screening exercise was carried out at the NIS Headquarters Abuja between August 29 2016 and September 6, 2016 and was opened to the press.
“The recommendations from the exercise have been submitted to the CDFIPB which on confirmation will be issued the provisional letters of appointment to the 888 successful candidates.
“The successful candidates will remain on probation in line with the Public Service extant laws until they are ensured that indeed they are drug free and of good conduct.
“For the successful applicants their names will be posted on our website on Monday. With this development the recruitment exercise has been regularized and the issue finally laid to rest.”
The Immigration boss added that “This government has given us a lot of opportunity to purchase patrol vehicles. We have done the tender to follow due process. Government has budget a lot of fund to buy operational vehicles. It has reached federal Executive Council (FEC) for approval.
“Ones we have vehicles we will hit the ground running. The challenge we have is that there is no equipment. We need border surveillance equipment to see things happening in Abuja. By 2017 we will focus on border patrol.
“You are aware that majority of those who are saved at the high sea unfortunately Nigeria is number three. Italy alone claimed that from January till date 30 thousand Nigerians have been rescued in Italy of cause it does not mean that those 30 thousand Nigerians left the country today, some are in different nearby countries because they were going by road.”
