"Nigeria is actually not worth dying for" - says son of a police officer who was assassinated 10 years ago

A Nigerian man - IG User: bluprint__ shared his late father's photo and wrote:

"I remember 16/10/2006 10 years ago just like 10days ago when my father died as a police officer serving his useless country he died and ever since then his country has forgotten him. No investigation on his assassination, no gratuity nothing not even hope for his 6 children and his poor widow. Nigeria is useless, Nigeria police are so useless
I remember how my dad was so passionate about his job, he didn't deserve to die and be forgotten that way. Nigeria is actually not worth dying for cause once you die it is finished for your family. Rest in peace dad and to other people who died serving their country. Your family and friends still have in you in their hearts."

Curfew imposed on southern Kaduna as herdsmen kill 20

There was pandemonium in Godogodo area of Southern Kaduna, Jema’ah Local Government Area of the state, as suspected Fulani herdsmen reportedly killed no fewer than 20 persons between Saturday and Sunday.

It was gathered that the attackers laid siege to the town, an urban settlement in Jema’ah LGA, which has its headquarters at Kafanchan. It is about 250 kilometres away from Kaduna metropolis and serves as both the commercial and the social hub of the people of Southern Kaduna.

The development forced the Interim Management Committee Chairman of the Council, Dr. Humble Katuka, to slam a 24-hour curfew on the LGA.

Katuka, who placed a 24-hour curfew on Jema’ah LGA around 3pm on Sunday, cited the need to maintain public order, law and security in the area as reason for his action.

This is just as tension enveloped Kafanchan, about 12 kilometres north of the troubled spot(Godogodo).

It was learnt that the herdsmen invaded the town in a commando-like style.

The police source as well as those fleeing from the crisis area, said Godogodo was torched, 20 people killed while scores suffered varying degrees of injuries.

JAMB scraps use of scratch cards

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has scrapped the use of scratch cards for any of its transactions and services, describing it as “archaic,” its Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, has announced.
He also demanded that the Federal Government should revert to the former system where serving vice-chancellors of universities were made chairmen of the Governing Board of JAMB.

A statement issued by the spokesperson for JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, obtained by The PUNCH on Sunday, said Oloyede made the announcement in Abuja in a paper he delivered during a meeting of the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities.

According to him, JAMB would be using the platform of pin vending to check all forms of fraudulent practices which was prevalent with the use of scratch cards.

“The decision is as a result of its consistent subjection to fraudulent practices, the use of scratch cards is archaic and it is the aim of JAMB to also promote accountability in line with government’s zero tolerance for corruption. This new system will be accessible through the options of web payment, ATM issued cards (Visa, Verve and MasterCard), online quick teller, ATM payment, quick teller mobile application and Bank Branch case/card,” he emphasised.

Oloyede said in the olden days, the understanding was that only serving vice-chancellors were made chairmen of Governing Board of JAMB.

We stayed without food for 40 days – Chibok Girls

The 21 freed Chibok girls said on Sunday in Abuja that for “one month and 10 days’’ of their abduction by the Boko Haram insurgents, they stayed without food in the bush.

Ms Gloria Dame, one of the rescued girls, narrated this while giving testimony on behalf of her colleagues at a thanksgiving service organised for them at a DSS health facility in Abuja.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, and Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Jummai Alhassan, attended the service.

The girl, who spoke in Hausa language, said their survival in captivity was an act of God.

“I did not know that a day like this will come that we will be dancing and giving thanks to God among people.

“For one month and 10 days we stayed without food. I narrowly escaped bomb blast in the forest.

“We are praying to God to touch the heart of Boko Haram insurgents to repent and we are calling on Nigerians to pray and fast for the release of our remaining ones in captivity,’’ she said.

I’m still alive, man with 97 wives in Niger

THE Bida man with over 90 wives, Bello Abubakar Masaba, on Sunday condemned reports making the rounds in some media that he is dead, saying “it is the work of my detractors.”

The media had rumoured that Masaba, who had worked as a teacher and Imam, died after a brief sickness in Bida, Niger State.
The octogenarian, who spoke on the telephone with our correspondent, said the rumour was baseless, adding that “I’m neither sick nor dead.”

He added, “My dear, I am very much alive, hale and hearty. The rumour is baseless. It is the work of my detractors because they are envious of what God is using me to do in the lives of the people. I am talking with you live and direct from my house in Bida.

“What I am doing is divine. It is an assignment and I will keep doing it till the end of time. I just want to advise those fighting against me to stop because such people are waging war against God, their Creator.”

Masaba had earlier married 107 women but later divorced 10 of them. Out of his 185 children, only 133 are still alive.

I was made to sign a confessional statement at gunpoint- Justice Adeniyi Ademola says

Justice Adeniyi Ademola who was among the judges that were arrested and detained last Saturday by agents of the Department of State Security, says he was made to sign a confessional statement at the DSS office with a gun pointed at him.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ademola alleged that the sting operation carried out by DSS at his home in Abuja, was a personal vendetta against him masterminded by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.

According to Justice Ademola, Malami is trying to get at him because while he was serving as a Federal judge in Kano between 2004-2008, he ordered the arrest of Malami for being involved in professional misconduct. In the letter addressed to the CJN, Justice Ademola stated that the DSS operatives held guns to his head to sign a document detailing items allegedly found in his house as well as confessional statements.

DSS in a statement released after the arrest of the seven judges in various parts of the country, stated that it recovered over N362 million during the operation. The arrest and detention involved two Supreme Court justices, Sylvester Ngwuta and Inyang Okoro, and two judges of the Federal High Court, Ademola (Abuja Division) and Muazu Pindiga (Gombe Division), was widely criticised.

Justice Ademola's letter to the CJN reads in part “Contrary to media report being circulated, I have never confessed to any crime or implicated anybody, including judges, in my statement obtained from me by the DSS. What is more intriguing in this whole episode is that I see it as a vendetta/revenge from the Hon. Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Mallami, SAN, (who) whilst I was in Kano between 2004 and 2008 as a Federal High Court judge was involved in a professional misconduct necessitating his arrest and detention by my order. However, with the intervention of the Nigerian Bar Association, Kano Branch, the allegation of misconduct was later withdrawn by me. Consequently, the National Judicial Council referred Abubakar Mallami to the NBA Disciplinary Committee for disciplinary action. It was a result of this he was denied the rank of SAN by the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee for the period of four years, until when he produced a fake letter of apology, purportedly, addressed to me. It was then he was conferred with the rank. Since the above incident, Abubakar Mallami has threatened to revenge and swore to do anything to bring me down. My Lord, with this infringement of my fundamental right, I seek for the leave to commence an action against the DSS to encore my right that was breached,” he stated.

Justice Ademola also alleged that he was arrested by the DSS because he granted bail to former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, and also freed the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

“For and interest of my life, and unknown persons with mask on their faces, I collected the written items and signed the document. Upon signing the document, they told me that I am under arrest and ordered me with guns still pointed at me to move outside. As I was going, they told me they were taking me to their office, Department of State Services office, without showing any warrant of arrest. I obeyed them and about six o’clock in the morning, I was whisked away from my residence to the DSS office without any warrant of arrest or reason for my arrest. From the time of my arrival at the DSS office, at about 6:45am on 8/10/2016, I was not told what my crime was for over 24 hours till the evening of 9/10/2016. A DSS official finally informed me that the search of my house and arrest were based on these three allegations: petition of Hon. Jenkins Duvie dated 4th of April 2016 to the National Judicial Council; granting bail to Col. Sambo Dasuki and the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu; and using my office to secure my wife’s appointment as the head of civil service through Senator Bola Tinubu.”
