Ogun civil servants suspend two-week old strike
Following a meeting between Labor leaders and the state governor, Ibikunle Amosun, the Ogun state civil servants have suspended their two weeks strike action.
National presidents of the NLC, JNC, Trade Union Congress (TUC), National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives
(NANNM), Comrades Ayuba Wabba, Kiri Mohammed, Bobboi Kaigama and Alani Adeniji, were all present at the closed -door meeting with the Governor lasted for about 10-hours with the state governor, Ibikunle Amosun and other top officials of government.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, NLC president, Comrade Wahab said that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the government and the state organized labour, and that some resolutions were agreed upon.
PDP Leadership visits Fani-Kayode, Bala Mohammed, Musiliu Obanikoro and Reuben Abati in EFCC custody
A delegation of the PDP National Caretaker Committee and other top members of the party led by the Chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, visited Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, Senator Bala Mohammed, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro and Dr Reuben Abati today in EFCC custody.
The delegation which included the National Secretary, Senator Ben Obi, National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, National Organising Secretary Senator Abdul Ningi, Senator Ughesi and Hajiya Binta Kuraye, arrived EFCC at2:30pm today, November 2, 2016.
According to inside sources, the delegation encouraged all four of the leaders that they visited and expressed full solidarity with them. They further said that they were happy to see that despite their challenges and unwarranted detention, they were still strong and in high spirits while urging them to keep the flag flying.
They assured all of them that the whole PDP family is solidly behind them and urged them to keep their heads held up high and remain strong. In their response, our sources said the four detainees expressed their gratitude to the delegation for the visit and the leadership they have demonstrated by coming to see them.
Cook of NNPC Managing Director, Esther Nnamdi-Ogbue absconds with $6m in cash and jewelry
A chef who worked for a Managing Director at the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mrs Esther Nnadi-Ogbue, has absconded with cash and pieces of jewelry worth $6million, according to Sahara Reporters.
The man, identified as Gabel Segbedji, a Benin Republic national took off with the loot in a Toyota Camry car which also belonged to her boss, last Wednesday.
Segbedji was reportedly recommended for employment by her close friend, Toke Benson. Mrs Nnamdi-Ogbue, whose daughter is set to wed later this month in London, is said to be totally devastated by the theft but didn't report it to the police.

Cook of NNPC Managing Director, Esther Nnamdi-Ogbue absconds with $6m in cash and jewelry

The management, teachers and students of Federal Government Girls College, Oyo state yesterday gathered at Atiba Hall in the school premises to mourn the death of four students who died in a car accident at Sabo market in Oyo state on Sunday October 30th. The deceased students were killed after a Lorry carrying garri, fell on a commercial bus conveying them to school. May their souls rest in peace Amen.
FG approves establisment of eight new universities
The Federal government has approved the establishment of eight new universities. Minister of State for Education, Anthony Onwuka, announced this today to state house corespondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting.
According to Onwuka, the newly approved universities include Anchor University Ayobo, Lagos; Arthur Jarvis Akpabuyo University Calabar, Cross River; Clifford University Owerinta, Abia;
Coal City University, Enugu; Crown Hill University Kwara; Dominican University Ibadan, Oyo; Kola Daisy University, Ibadan; and Legacy University, Okija, Anambra State. He said all the new universities were given three years provisional license and they are to be mentored by older universityies.
According to Onwuka, Anchor University will be mentored by the University of Lagos, Jarvis University by the University of Calabar, Clifford University by the University of Agriculture, Umudike, Coal city University by the University of Nigeria Nsukka; Legacy University by Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Crown Hill University by the University of Ilorin; while the two new universities in Oyo State, Kola Daisy and Dominican universities, will be mentored by the University of Ibadan.
Ex-Customs boss, Dikko, returns N1bn cash to FG
A former Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Dikko, has returned N1,040,000, 000 to the Federal Government, The PUNCH has learnt.
Dikko, who served as the head of customs between August, 2009 and August, 2015, became the subject of an EFCC investigation last year when the commission established that about N40bn was diverted from the coffers of the NCS under his watch.
The funds were allegedly drawn from proceeds of the seven per cent cost of collection and one per cent comprehensive import supervision scheme.
He was subsequently arrested by the EFCC in June this year but was released due to his poor health.
However, a reliable source within the EFCC told our correspondent that the suspect had been returning money to the government.
The source added, “So far, Dikko has returned over N1bn. He returned N1bn and then N4m. He is still expected to return more money.”
The EFCC had, earlier in the year, seized a mansion belonging to Dikko located at 1 Audu Ogbeh Street, Jabi, Abuja.
According to the EFCC, the mansion is worth at least N2bn.
Our correspondent, who visited the property, observed the inscription, ‘EFCC, Keep Off!’ painted all over the fence.
A source in the commission said, “The EFCC Act Section 71 (b) gives us the power to commence investigations into the property of any person if it appears to the EFCC that the person’s lifestyle and extent of properties are not justified by law.
“Section 28 says concerning those arrested under the Act, the commission will immediately trace and attach all the assets and seizures of such a person which have been acquired.
“Section 29 permits the assets of a person arrested under Section 28 to be seized by the state.
“Dikko was a customs officer and served for about 30 years. He has to explain where he got the money to buy a mansion of N2bn.”
The ex-Customs CG is also believed to own properties in Dubai and in Katsina, his home state.
Soyinka says he’ll destroy his green card if Trump wins
Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka says he will cut his green card and leave the United States if Donald Trump wins the presidential election, according to a report by The Guardian.
The report said Soyinka, a scholar-in-residence at New York University’s Institute of American Affairs, disclosed the plan in a speech to Oxford students.
He was quoted as saying, “If in the unlikely event he does win, the first thing he’ll do is to say [that] all green-card holders must reapply to come back into the US. Well, I’m not waiting for that.
“The moment they announce his victory, I will cut my green card myself and start packing up.”
The Nobel laureate also criticised Brexit, warning that there is a rise of “ultranationalism” and calling on young people to resist oppression.
His comments come less than three weeks after 70 Nobel laureates backed Democratic Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
On Monday, about 370 economists and eight Nobel laureates denounced Trump, accusing him of promoting conspiracy theories, among other things.
Regardless, Clinton has seen her lead in poll slip after the FBI announced that it was reopening her email probe.

Mystery, as man commits suicide
A former Director General, Services and Administration, Oju Local Government Area of Benue State, Mr. Emmanuel Onwuke, yesterday, allegedly committed suicide, by jumping into a well situated in his house for yet-to-be disclosed reason.
Vanguard learned from an eyewitness that the remains of the deceased was found in the well after his family members started searching for him, following his sudden disappearance from his Oju residence for several hours without contacting his family members.
