Trump: Those who imposed APC on Nigerians have lost out – Fayose

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has described the victory of the Republican billionaire Donald Trump, as the President-elect of the United States as “the beginning of real change in Nigeria.

He said by Trump’s victory, those who imposed the present All Progressives Congress government on Nigerians had just lost out.

“Now that Trump has won, it portends hope for Nigerians that the excesses of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government will stop as the road has ended for those who conspired to impose Buhari on Nigerians.”

In a reaction sent to our correspondent on Wednesday, Fayose who expressed concerns about human rights abuse in Nigeria, said he believed that the US under Trump would be able to tell Buhari to respect the Rule of Law and to sit at home to solve the country’s economic problems instead of traveling around the world.

The governor said, “Trump presidency symbolises different things to different people and nations. It symbolises God at work and a clear departure from the old order.

“It is also a turning point for Nigeria and Nigerians, particularly those controlling the federal government that must have to change their ways as their allies who imposed them on us just lost out.

“Most importantly, President Barack Obama got what he did to Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. God bless President-Elect Donald John Trump!”

Describing the conduct of the elections as a lesson for Nigerians, the governor urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to always respect people’s will and stop aiding unpopular politicians.

Fayose said, “The US elections started and ended seamlessly. The electoral umpire never meddled; the military, police and SSS did not provide cover for ballot snatchers. No printing of doggy result sheets. I think Prof. Mahmood Yakubu and his INEC should learn from this for posterity. They should stop aiding unpopular politicians to rob the people of quality leadership.”

Reps ask security agencies to arrest ‘MMM’promoters

The House of Representatives on Wednesday asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Central Bank of Nigeria to immediately go after the promoters Mavrodi Mondial Moneybox, otherwise known as ‘MMM’ in Nigeria.

Lawmakers strongly opposed the investment scheme, which lately gained popularity among Nigerians in the wake of the current economic recession in the country.

MMM promises 30 per cent return on investment for any money put into the scheme within 30 days.

The investment scheme has a Russian origin and “involves directing clients to make money available for an anonymous person with a promise of 30 per cent return within one month.”

But, members described the scheme as a “scam” and warned Nigerians not to be carried away by the “mouth-watering” returns on investments.

Lawmakers warned that the “trick” used by the operators was to attract as many Nigerians as possible to invest substantial amounts of money before the bubble would burst.

The House directed the EFCC, security agencies and the CBN to take urgent steps to halt the scheme before many Nigerians would become victims of the scam.

It also asked its Committees on Banking/Currency and Financial Crimes to investigate the activities of MMM Nigeria Scheme, “with a view to saving Nigerians participating in the scheme from you financial ruin.”

The Chairman, House Committee on Telecommunications, Mr. Saheed Fijabi, had in a motion, drawn the attention of the House to the growing popularity of the scheme among Nigerians.

Fijabi, an All Progressives Congress lawmaker from Oyo State, represents Ibadan-South/West Federal Constituency.

“The scheme entered the Nigerian circle in 2016, capitalising on the high level of unemployment and poverty to deceive unwary Nigerians into falling prey to their antics”, Fijabi stated.

He said the fact that MMM was not regulated by law or approved by the CBN as a secure business venture, made Nigerians more vulnerable.

Ogun bans auxiliary nurses from running health facilities

The Ogun Government on Wednesday banned auxiliary nurses from running health facilities across the state, saying they lack the required expertise to do so.
Dr. Babatunde Ipaye, Commissioner for Health, announced this during a tour of health facilities in Abeokuta South and Odeda local government areas of the state.
Ipaye said the exercise was to ensure compliance with registration and re-validation of private health facilities.
He said the ban became necessary to guide against quackery and lack of professionalism in the health sector.
“This present administration will no longer condone activities of quacks, as they endanger the lives of citizens.
“Eight private health facilities have been shut down in Abeokuta South and Odeda local government areas.
“This is in addition to the 58 earlier shut down for not meeting up with the deadline for re-validation and registration of their facilities issued by the State Ministry of Health since January 2016”, he said.

Wole Soyinka confirms he will tear his green card on day Trump will be sworn in

Professor Wole Soyinka has confirmed that he will keep his word and tear his green card, on the day Donald Trump is sworn in as the 45th president of the USA.

Soyinka made the vow last week, while giving a speech to students of Oxford University in England.

According to the literary icon: “If in the unlikely event he does win, the first thing he’ll do is to say [that] all green-card holders must reapply to come back into the US. Well, I’m not waiting for that.

“The moment they announce his victory, I will cut my green card myself and start packing up.”

Trump won the US presidential election early this morning in an incredible victory that has shocked pundits and observers all around the world

Following backlash from Reno Omokri and Nigerians , the Nobel Laureate has spoken for the first time since the results of the elections were announced.‎

Excerpts of his interview with The Interview Magazine below:

Did Donald Trump’s victory surprise you?

Not altogether. The possibility was looming nearer and nearer, getting scarier and scarier.

What do you think Trump’s victory means for the world, especially Nigeria?

It’s brought an already teetering world closer to the precipice.

Do you think the victory of Trump, who threatened to build a Wall is a coincidence coming exactly 27 years to the day the Berlin Wall came down?

Trump’s Wall is already under construction. Walls are built in the mind, and Trump has erected walls, not only across the mental landscape of America but across the global landscape. I am glad you referred to the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall – that was one anniversary in reversal!

Will you thrash your green card, as you reportedly said you would?

Come January 20, 2017, watch my WOLEXIT! (Donald Trump will be sworn-in as the 45th President of the United States of America on Friday, January 20, 2017)

At what point did it occur to you that Trump’s victory was inevitable?

As Election Day approached, the specter became near palpable. I refused to switch on the television this morning until I had stiffened myself with a strong espresso. I felt disaster in my marrow.
