Christmas: Lagos to sell bag of rice for N13,000 from December 15


The Lagos State Government on Thursday said it was ready to roll out Lake Rice on December 15 to Lagosians at N13,000 per 50 kg towards the Yuletide celebrations.
The sale will come as succour for millions of Lagosians who like their counterparts in most parts of the country have had to pay over N20,000 for a bag of rice, mostly imported. .
Sanni Okanlawan, Special Adviser on Food Security to Governor Akinwumi Ambode, made the disclosure in Lagos during the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) National Agriculture Stakeholders Summit. .
Mr. Okanlawan said that sales of the rice would be made at all the 57 LGAs and LCDAs in the state to ensure proper distribution. “Lake Rice is the acronym of both Lagos and Kebbi States joint product which will be out to the public on December 15 at the rate of N13,000 per 50kg bag as it is already subsidised by the government. .
To make it more available, the rice will be sold at the 57 LGAs and LCDAs for easy accessibility and to guard against unwanted persons diverting the product,” Mr. Okanlawan said\

Naira stabilises at N485 per dollar at parallel market 
The Naira on Friday remained stable at the parallel market, exchanging at N485 to a dollar. The Pound Sterling and the Euro closed at N602 and N515, respectively. At the interbank market, the Naira also remained stable at N305.50 to a dollar. Trading at the Bureau De Change (BDC) window saw the Naira sold at N399 to a dollar, CBN controlled rate, while the Pound Sterling and the Euro exchanged at N606 and N515, respectively. Traders at the market said that the scarcity of dollar persisted, leading to slow activities. (NAN)






3 Lagos pilgrims abscond in Jerusalem, one of them pictured

Three pilgrims, one female and two males, from Lagos State, who went for this year’s pilgrimage in Jerusalem, Israel, have absconded, PM News reports. .
Sources in Jerusalem revealed that the female pilgrim was the first to abscond few days after arriving the holy land for the 10 days spiritual exercise. .
One other male pilgrim also absconded few days after the female pilgrim was declared missing, while the last one ran away shortly after the thanksgiving service to mark the departure of the pilgrims from Jerusalem back to Nigeria two days ago.

South Korean President, Park Geun-hye impeached


South Korean first female President, Park Geun-hye, who sparked a nationwide protest after she was accused of using her position to influence and give financial benefits to her friend, Choi Soon-Sil, has been impeached by the Parliament.
The motion to impeach her was passed by 234 votes in favour of her impeachment against 53 votes who were against the impeachment. The number of votes reveals that some members of her party voted in favour of her impeachment. Following her impeachment, her authority as a president has been passed down to the prime minister, Hwang Kyo-ahn.
After the votes, Park went on national television to apologize for the chaos she has caused
"I created this national chaos with my carelessness". she said
However, her case would be taken before the Constitutional court who have only 180 days to make a decision. If at least six out the court's nine judges approves the decision, she would be stripped down of her position and another election will be held within 60 days




Supreme Court dismisses petition against Cross Rivers state governor over alleged age falsification
The Supreme Court today validated the 2015 election of Cross Rivers state governor, Ben Ayade, dismissing a petition against him alleging he falsified his age during his registration for the PDP governorship primaries.

A member of PDP, Joe Agi, had approached the apex court to nullify the election of Ayade on the grounds that he falsified his age. The Supreme Court justices however ruled against the petition, saying the petitioner could not substantiate his claim.
