Federal High Court orders EFCC to immediately defreeze Fayose's bank accounts

Federal High Court in Ado Ekiti has ordered that Governor Ayodele Fayose's accounts in Zenith Bank be defrozen with immediate effect. The accounts were frozen by the EFCC in June, this year. However, in his landmark judgment today, Justice Taiwo Taiwo described the EFCC action as illegal, wrongful, unlawful and unconstitutional.
The judge said the EFCC action breached the governor's fundamental rights to fair hearing, as the commission did not make him a party to the proceedings for the interim freezing of the account. He said that the EFCC suppressed facts by not disclosing to the court that granted the interim freezing order that the two accounts that were frozen belonged to Governor who enjoys total constitutional immunity.
Justice Taiwo also said that the EFCC did not provide any credible evidence empowering it to carry out the freezing of the accounts using Zenith Bank as a proxy, whereas, Zenith Bank is a mere custodian and not the owner of the accounts, which evidence has shown belong to the Governor. The judge ruled that being a person covered fully by Section 308 of the 1999 Constitution, no legal proceedings can be instituted against Governor Fayose.
He also said that any law including some sections of the EFCC acts like Sections 28, 31, and 44 that expropriate citizens rights must be construed strictly and usually in favour of citizens whose properties have been confiscated. Governor Fayose's Counsel, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), hailed the judgment, describing the judge as courageous and firm.
He said the judge, by the judgement laid to rest all the abracadabra of the EFCC in illegally, wrongfully, unlawfully and unconstitutionally going about on a rampage freezing Nigeria citizens accounts with reckless abandon. Ozekhome also said that Justice Taiwo further restored the hope of Nigerians in the judiciary as the last hope of the common man and woman and the guardian sentinel of the civil rights, liberties and freedoms of Nigerians.

President Buhari arrives Gambia
President Buhari has arrived Gambia, where he is to join other African leaders like the President of Sierra Leone Ernest Bai Koroma, President of Liberia Ellen Sirleaf Johnson, President of Ghana John Dramani Mahama and UN Rep Dr Mohammed Ibn Chambass, to hold a meeting with the Gambian President, Yayha Jammeh.
The African leaders are to persuade the Gambian President to vacate office after he lost the December 1st Presidential election. They will insist on the sanctity of the electoral process, and respect for the wishes of the people. They will also ask him to respect the Constitution of his own country.
The leaders are also scheduled to meet the President-elect, Adama Barrow. President Buhari is expected back in Abuja later today.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday, 8th December, 2016 secured the conviction of three operators of wonder bank, Dayo Peter Bulus (a.k.a Bulus MaiyakiL Oyeleye Adetunji (a.k.a James Adetunji) and Martins Adedayo before Justice Salad Mohammed of High Court 2 Gombe, Gombe State on two Count charge of Conspiracy and Cheating to tune of (N968, 050) Nine Hundred and Sixty Eight Thousand Fifty Naira Only.
The Convicts were arraigned by the EFCC on Thursday 8th December, 2016 before Gombe State High Court no. 2. Upon their arraignment, the convict pleaded guilty to the two count charge against them.

Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, says he has not received any salary since he assumed office in 2010, six years ago. Aregbesola whose administration has been characterized with the non-payment of salaries, said this when he spoke at the launch of Oodua FM in Ile-Ife on Sunday Dec 11th.
“When people complain about our financial state, I begin to wonder if they think I am spending people’s money. Some of you do not know that I have not received any salary since I became governor- of Osun state, why will I take that of others,”he said
Governor Aregbesola is entitled to N2.2 million monthly salary as a sitting governor. He is also entitled to other perks like hardship allowance N1.11 million, leave allowance N222, 370.00, constituency allowance of N4.44 million and newspaper allowance N333,555.75.
Nigeria will come out of recession in 2017 – FG
The federal government of Nigeria has assured Nigerians that the ongoing economic hardship in the nation would end in 2017.
It said a foundation for a diversified economy had been being laid, adding that “the 2017 budget will strengthen the economy further.”
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal, gave this message of hope when he received a delegation from the Methodist Church of Nigeria, led by the Archbishop of Abuja, the Most Reverend Joseph Oche Job.
A statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations in the Office of the SGF, Bolaji Adebiyi, quoted Lawal as restating that “President Muhammadu Buhari is determined to revamp the economy and take the nation out of recession next year (2017)”
He further added that President Buhari was determined and committed to the three major objectives of his administration, which are to improve national security, vigorously fight corruption and overhaul the economy.
He implored them to continue to pray for peace and security of the nation.
In his remark, Archbishop Job assured the support of the Church for the Federal Government in the fight against corruption which, he said , “is the number one enemy of our dear country Nigeria.”
Ealier, Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo had expressed optimism that Nigerian will come out of the current recession happy.
Zahra Buhari confirms her wedding to Ahmed Indimi
One of President Muhammadu Buhari’s daughters, Zahra, has finally confirmed she is getting married to Ahmed Indimi, who is the son of oil magnate, Mohammed Indimi.
There were reports that the marriage between Zahra and Ahmed had been postponed, due to the buzz in the media.
President Buhari was reportedly not happy with the attention it was getting, as well as the alleged delivery of customized boxes worth around N47million.
However, it seems all that is now in the past and the wedding will take place soon.
The invitation cards have already made their way into public space and it bears December 16 as the date for the wedding. It will hold at the National Mosque in Abuja.
Zahra confirmed this by posting a blank image on Instagram with the captions “#Zahmed2016” and “#InshaAllah“
