The head of civil Service, Mrs. Ekereobong Akpan revealed at a press briefing that the Akwa Ibom state government intends re absorbing 5000 teachers sacked last october. Those affected were alleged to own fake credentials and that their recruitment process was marred with irregularuties.
Modalities she said are in place to screen and re-evaluated those affected on February 11.During this exercise, teachers will be sceeen on presenting their original letter of employment before suspension. Teachers who succeed in the exercise will be recriuted.
“The affected persons will be expected to supply their birth certificates, first school leaving certificates, educational qualifications, certificate of origin and other credentials earlier submitted.
“Let me state here and very sincerely that the affected persons, who succeed at this fool proof screening, shall be offered appointment to teach in our public schools,” Akpan said.
Mrs Apkan also made mention of government inquiry into six privatelely owned community schools that were taken over by the government. Apparently, the six community schools staff strength increased to 546 after the government took over
“Let me break the good news that the committee set up has submitted its report.
“All the bona fide teaching and non-teaching workers as identified by the community will be absorbed into the service,” she said.
