Standard Organization of Nigeria has arrested a supplier of expired goods.
The miscreant identified as Joseph Udeh is an importer and owner of Jouf Nigeria Limited. He is said to own two four storey buildings which were used to store and alter the expiry dates of goods such assorted wines, cosmetic facial wipes, deodrants, creams,oils, lotions, sanitary pads, pampers and Huggies baby diapers sunlight, Ariel detergent and more.
The products which are reported to date as far back as 2004 occupied every inch of the buildings. Mr Udeh and his employees altered the expiry dates of the products, dispatched it to stores he owned in Balogun market and other major stores nationwide.
When questioned by SON, Mr Udeh claimed he had invited NAFDAF on numerous occasions to destroy the products but they never showed up. However NAFDAC refuted his claims.
Mr Bede Obayi, this Head, Inspectorate and Compliance SON, speaking on behalf of Mr Osita Aboloma, the Director General of SON expressed concern over the effects of the expired products on consumers especially babies. He said the culprit will face the wrath of the law. He added that investigations will be carried out and the expired goods will be recalled from retailers at Udeh’s expense.
