Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, has been re-elected for the fourth time in the German Federal Elections.
Her closest rival, from the central left, Martin Schulz, conceded at the headquarter of his party Social Democratic Party (SPD), nydailynews reports. He said:
Today is a difficult and bitter day. We clearly didn’t manage to maintain and expand our traditional voter base.
Her right wing party, Christian Democratic/Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) remains the largest party in the parliament, with 32.9% of the votes.
With SPD going into the opposition, with 20.8% of the votes, Merkel and her party will have to build a new coalition.
