Isaiah Webb (top right) was bushed into second place for his ast-hounding wolf-like facial hair at the 2017 World Beard and Moustache Championships. He was beaten by Michael Wollin (bottom left) whose 60cm locks won him best full beard at the show in Austin, Texas.
Jason Kiley’s intimately coiled coiffure saw him crowned best in show beating punk John Banks’s curls by a whisker. The bi-annual event features 26 bizarre categories from four main categories for best moustache, partial beard, full beard and, for the first time, ladies’ beard.
Over a thousand flocked to the three-day tournament, which was the biggest since the modern version of the age-old tradition started in Germany in 1990. Competitors spend hours before the big day, brushing and blow-drying their beards before using extra strong hair products to fix them in place.
