A medical doctor has been arrested and charged to court after he allegedly killed an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps.
The medical practitioner, Olagunju Adesola, was on Wednesday arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State capital, for killing an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Samuel Abolusoro.
The incident happened at the FUTA area of Akure last Wednesday.
Reading the one-count charge to the accused, “that you Olagunju Adesola on the 25th Day of November 2017, at about 8:00am along Ilesha/Akure expressway at FUTA North gate area, Akure, in the Akure magistrateral districts being a driver in charge of Toyota Matrix with registration Number APP 87 DF drove same on public highway in a manner which was dangerous to public having regard to all circumstances of the case including the nature, condition and use of highway and the amount of traffic which actually is at the time, of which might reasonably be expected to be on the highway and cause accident that led to the death of one Abolusoro Samuel, the FRSC man while on official duty and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 18(5) and punishable under section 81 (1) RTC CAP III Vol 6 law of Ondo state of Nigeria 2006.”
The accused pleaded not guilty to the offence while the Police Prosecutor sought the indulgence of the court to adjourn the case and to enable him prepare adequately for the case.
The defence counsel however did not oppose the motion by the prosecutor but prayed the court to grant to his client on liberal term.
The Presiding Judge, Magistrate: G. O. Awodeyi, however granted the accused bail in the sum of N1m with one surety in like sum, while the case was adjourned till February 1, 2018.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Femi Joseph, while speaking after the adjournment, confirmed that the accused drove recklessly leading to the death of the FRSC official.
