A case of malpractice has been reported to authorities, after a girl was caught with her phone inside her pant during UTME
A young Nigerian lady named Joy Apkabio was recently caught red handed while trying to cheat in an exam hall. According to reports, the student hid her phone in her lady part in which she planned to use to get answers during the examination. Unfortunately for her, she was caught as she brought out the prohibited device to use for examination malpractice.
The suspect was immediately arrested by Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officers. Joy had taken her phone into the hall in hope to use it to get answers to the questions in order to score higher marks. She reportedly confessed to being assisted by a certain, Andrew Etziuala who was in another location, texting the supposed answers to her
Confessing, Joy claimed had failed JAMB four times and her fifth trial was when she decided to get involved in examination malpractice by sneaking in a phone hidden in private area. She also claimed, other students were making use of their mobile devices when she was caught.
The Commandant, NSCDC Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Mr. Patrick Akpan shared the news with newsmen in Abuja on March 13, revealing that the suspects were caught in Baptist Academy, Karu, Abuja.
He shared that they were caught through the aid of CCTV cameras which is planted in every exam hall and monitored by officials of the examination board.
Spokesperson of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Dr. Fabian Benjamin also revealed that Joy would have failed had she not been caught as the answers being sent to her by her accomplice were that of 1998 JAMB questions and not of 2018.
He said:
“This particular candidate went into the hall with her phone and text messages were sent to her, but we discover that the answers were for 1990 JAMB questions, they are not for 2018 questions at all. You can see the level of deception.
Even if she wasn’t arrested, she would have failed.” Joy and Andrew are currently in custody and will be thoroughly investigated before taken to the courts says Dr. Benjamin. He added that over one million candidates had written the examination which commenced on March 9.
